Inheritance law benefits
Why Bicara Waris

What Sets Our Practice Apart from Others in the Field

Many legal practices handle estate matters. Fewer build their entire practice around the specific needs of families working through inheritance — and fewer still do so with the patience and transparency that this kind of work demands.

Six Reasons Families Choose Bicara Waris

Conversation Before Documentation

We do not begin drafting until we understand the family situation. The first session is always a listening session.

One Advisor Throughout

The advisor who takes your first call handles your matter from beginning to end. No handoffs between departments or junior staff.

Cross-Border Competence

We have handled estate matters involving assets in Singapore, the UK, Australia, and Hong Kong, and maintain working relationships with counsel in those jurisdictions.

Transparent, All-In Fees

Our fees for each service are stated clearly before any instruction is accepted. Disbursements are communicated in advance — not added after the fact.

Plain-Language Explanations

Every legal concept is explained in terms that make sense to non-lawyers. We will not issue a document you do not fully understand.

Strict Confidentiality

Estate and inheritance matters are deeply personal. We handle every engagement with complete professional discretion and document security.

In Depth

A Closer Look at Our Approach

Professional Expertise in Estate Law

Our advisors are qualified members of the Malaysian Bar with specific depth in the Wills Act 1959, Probate and Administration Act 1959, and the Distribution Act 1958. Where Muslim inheritance law applies, we work with the relevant Faraid framework and coordinate with the appropriate authorities. This is not a general legal practice that takes estate matters as one category among many — it is what we do.

  • Qualified Malaysian Bar members with estate specialisation
  • Experience across testate and intestate estate administration
  • Regular professional development through the Malaysian Bar

A Structured, Documented Process

We follow a consistent advisory methodology across all engagements: an initial listening session, a written summary of the recommended approach for the client's review, document preparation, a review session with the client, and finalisation. This means there are no surprises mid-engagement, and the client always has a clear written record of what has been agreed and why.

  • Written advisory summary provided after initial session
  • Clear milestone communication throughout
  • Formal review session before any document is signed

Service That Recognises the Human Context

Many clients come to us during a period of grief or in anticipation of a difficult family conversation. We take that context seriously. Appointments are never rushed. If you need to pause a consultation and return another day, that is always possible. We work at the pace that suits the family, not the pace that fills a billing sheet efficiently.

  • Flexible scheduling, including early evening appointments by arrangement
  • Sessions can be paused and resumed without additional charge
  • Advisor reachable by telephone or email between sessions

Clear Pricing Without Hidden Additions

Our three services carry fixed fees — MYR 880 for living will drafting, MYR 1,180 for trust establishment, and MYR 1,510 for foreign asset inheritance counsel. Where disbursements apply (for example, government fees or the cost of coordinating with overseas counsel), we state those costs explicitly and obtain the client's agreement before incurring them. No invoice will contain a charge that was not discussed in advance.

  • Fixed professional fees, stated before any instruction
  • Disbursements pre-agreed in writing
  • No additional charges for follow-up questions during the engagement
How We Compare

Our Approach vs. Typical Legal Practice

The differences between a general legal practice and one built around inheritance counsel are significant — particularly for families dealing with complex or cross-border estates.

Feature Bicara Waris Typical General Practice
Estate law focus One area among many
Single advisor throughout Often passed between staff
Cross-border estate experience Varies significantly
Fixed, pre-agreed fees Hourly billing common
Initial consultation without charge Not always
Sensitive handling for bereaved families Varies by practice
What Makes Us Different

Features Particular to Bicara Waris

Written Advisory Summaries

After the initial listening session, we provide a concise written summary of the recommended approach for the client's own records — before any instruction is accepted. This practice is not standard in the industry and helps clients feel informed rather than dependent.

Established Overseas Counsel Network

For foreign asset inheritance matters, we have established working relationships with law firms in Singapore, the United Kingdom, and Australia. This means clients receive coordinated guidance rather than being directed to find their own overseas representation.

No Time Pressure on Consultations

We do not operate on a standard hourly billing model for consultations. Clients are not watching the clock. If a conversation requires two hours to reach clarity, it takes two hours — the fixed fee covers the time needed.

Family Meeting Facilitation

Where a client wishes to speak with family members about the decisions in a living will or trust arrangement, we are available to facilitate that conversation — explaining the legal dimensions in a way that is accessible to all present, not just the instructing client.
